OpenAI confirms GPT-5, Sam Altman spills the beans on the newest version of ChatGPT
OpenAI's Sam Altman has given some clues about what to expect from GPT-5, the next-generation large language model from the company.
After OpenAI unveiled its amazing AI chatbot ChatGPT in November 2022, the world was never the same. In terms of usage and popularity, ChatGPT is currently the unchallenged leader among AI technologies worldwide. In fact, it has sparked an arms race in AI among major tech corporations.
After multiple iterations, OpenAI's most potent large language model, GPT-4, powers ChatGPT today. The world has been eagerly anticipating GPT-5, the next iteration, even though GPT-4 has revealed some incredible possibilities. Up until today, not much was known about GPT-5. However, it appears that CEO Sam Altman has hinted at OpenAI's upcoming significant advancement.
According to Altman, OpenAI is actively developing GPT-5 and might even be capable of "superintelligence." Altman stated that he wants to raise capital from Microsoft in order to support the company's efforts to develop artificial general intelligence (AGI). Speaking to the Financial Times, the CEO added that things were "really" going well with OpenAI and Microsoft's collaboration.
Perspectives on the Future: An Overview of GPT-5
CEO Sam Altman has hinted at a potential breakthrough into the field of "superintelligence" by revealing that OpenAI is hard at work on GPT-5. The creation of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is, in Altman's opinion, the primary goal of OpenAI. He also suggested that a possible financing source may be developed with Microsoft to accomplish this goal.
Altman is now concentrating his efforts on two main areas: first, he is undertaking in-depth study on building superintelligence and second, he is investigating ways to increase processing capacity in order to achieve this lofty goal. "The vision is to make AGI, figure out how to make it safe, and figure out the benefits," according to a comment from Altman.
Discovering Uncharted Territory: On Our Way To Superintelligence
During the GPT-5 discussion, Altman revealed that a larger volume of data will be needed for training this new model. According to Altman, this data is most likely a combination of confidential data that has been acquired from different companies and publicly accessible datasets that are available online. It is anticipated that GPT-5 will greatly outperform its predecessors in terms of sophistication. However, Altman even admits that it's still difficult to forecast exactly what new possibilities this paradigm would bring.
